2009 dürften infolge der weltweiten Wirtschafts- und Finanzkrise bis zu zwei Drittel der Autohändler in Deutschland Verluste einfahren. Branchenvertreter gehen davon aus, dass bis zu 30 Prozent der Betriebe in ihrer Existenz bedroht sein könnten. Neben dem wegbrechenden Absatz machen der Branche auch noch die sich verschlechternden Finanzierungsbedingungen zu schaffen. Allerdings sind auch schon vor dem Ausbruch der Krise Sättigungstendenzen sichtbar geworden. Von der Krise wollen Händler profitieren, die kleinere, sparsamere Fahrzeuge im Sortiment haben.
