About the author

Shakuntala Devi (4 November 1929 – 21 April 2013) was an Indian writer popularly known as the "human computer". Her talent earned her a place in the 1982 edition of The Guinness Book of World Records.

She was born in a well-known family of Brahmin priests in Bangalore. She received her early lessons in mathematics from her grandfather. By the age of five, she was recognised as a child prodigy and an expert in complex mental arithmetic.
