Christine Pope’s latest book, Awoken, marks the end of the Djinn War novels. Jordan Wells is a fugitive on her way to Los Alamos, New Mexico, the last human settlement free of the vengeful Djinn, who have reclaimed the world for their own. Jordan has lived in two communities since the Dying, the disease the Djinn had devised to rid the Earth of most of it’s population, but each has been attacked by the Djinn. Jordan, the lone survivor, makes her way fearfully through the New Mexico countryside, taking cover as much as possible and hoping against hope that she won’t stumble across the land that had been given to any Djinn. Jordan decides to stop in the small town of Chama to forage for supplies and comes across a house that is seemingly occupied. Unfortunately for her, it’s occupied by a Djinn. Hasan Al-Abyad is restless. The Djinn elders have given him the land around Chama but he can’t seem to settle in. In spite of himself, he’s lonely and he doesn’t like it one bit. Although he’s had relations with Djinn women before, none of them were serious enough for him to want to stay around long. Then he meets Jordan and starts to wonder if maybe there is just a little bit more to life than he’d thought. This book is a study of two people of vastly different backgrounds who are drawn to each other and have to confront their prejudices as they move towards a possible relationship with each other. I really liked both the characters of Jordan and Hasan. I thought they were very well thought out and fully dimensional. I did feel that the ending was a little truncated, especially for the end of a series, but that didn’t interfere at all with my enjoyment of the book. Awoken is a good read and I really enjoyed it.

Jordan has managed to survive quite well for the last few years since The Dying. But rogue Djinn swept through her little enclave and decimated her fellow survivors. She only escaped as she was out on a foraging mission. She hopes to join the other survivors in New Mexico and sets off on the long trek. But when she stops at what she assumes is an abandoned house in a Djinn free zone, she never expected to meet a certain tall, blue eye Djinn. Especially one who makes her girly bits pay attention!!! Hasan was not one of the Thousand who had a "Chosen". He has taken part in the cleansing of the humans but has never harmed a woman or a child personally. When he sees Jordan in the house he has acquired, he locks her up until he thinks about what to do with her. She intrigues him and he finds himself trying to spend time with her. But when other Djinn take notice of his "guest" he realises he has to get her away and into the safety of Los Alamos. But when he follows her to Los Alamos, their secrets are revealed and they have to make a decision on whether to stay together or are they better off apart. Fabulous book! Hasan is not the perfect hero, more of an anti-hero who intends to atone for his sins. Jordan understands Hasan's place in her heart but also struggles with his past actions. I really can't wait to see what happens next. I'd really love more from this world.

I really enjoyed this story it had a lot of action and of course it ended happy
