About this eBook

Secrets, strangers, and curses will lure you into the first book of the instant New York Times bestselling contemporary gothic fantasy series—where a stirring paranormal romance unfolds in an isolated southern town.
Lena Duchannes is unlike anyone the small Southern town of Gatlin has ever seen, and she's struggling to conceal her power, and a curse that has haunted her family for generations. But even within the overgrown gardens, murky swamps and crumbling graveyards of the forgotten South, a secret cannot stay hidden forever.

Ethan Wate, who has been counting the months until he can escape from Gatlin, is haunted by dreams of a beautiful girl he has never met. When Lena moves into the town's oldest and most infamous plantation, Ethan is inexplicably drawn to her and determined to uncover the connection between them.

In a town with no surprises, one secret could change everything.

The last time I read a book this quick was from the Hunger Games trilogy. I enjoy the twists and plot development...(I love Ridleys character. She will be played by Emmy Rossum, whom I had the pleasure of meeting and chatting quickly with. Emmy told me about the series when I met her which piqued my interest and led me to buy this book. I'm looking forward to her adaptation of the cunning Ms. Ridley in the screenplay. Until then I can't resist delving into the next book, Beautiful Darkness.

Good book, I was happy I read it. This book while good and interesting wasn't hard to put down for days at a time. I just wasn't riveted to it like other books. It all made sense after finding out there were two authors (I didn't pay attention before I read it). I bought the second book and I'm hoping it's a little more riveting than the first one but all in all I thought it was a good book for the young adult section.

Ok, so I have an unpopular opinion but, I preferred the movie to the book. The book was great in its own way so no offense to the author. I don't know, I just didn't like the flow of the story. It felt like I was reading the words depression, drama and teen angst on repeat. I am going to read the second book so hopefully I can fully get into it then, but I am setting my expectations low just in case. I really wanted to get drawn in and that just never happened for me. I love a book that I can't put down and this wasn't it. The movie I could watch over and over again though. Sorry author, you can't please everyone.
