Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission officer Josh Tanner crosses paths with Delilah Atwood in the deep wilderness as she is working on the quest to free her sister. Both must defeat danger and evil while finding safety together in their future. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

I have read several books by this author, but this is the first one I have read in the new series, the Florida Wildlife Warriors. The ARC was provided by the author via BookSprout. This story takes place in the wilds of Florida, where Delilah has come to study the Rhesus macaque monkeys as partially a cover to look for her teenaged sister who still lives with her ultra-fundamental, antigovernment family. From what happened to her at sixteen, Delilah wants to save her sister from going through the same trauma. While being in the forest studying her monkeys, she meets Fish and Wildlife police officer, Josh Tanner. He becomes intrigued by Delilah because he knows she is there for more than just a wildlife study. As incidents keep happening around Delilah, her past and present collide while investigating how her fundamentalist family is involved with what is going on with the crimes going on in the area. The book has plenty of action and adventure as Delilah and Josh try to solve this case and save her sister.

After her survivalist father tried to marry her off at 16, Delilah Atwood couldn't run far enough and fast enough from her family. Now she's back , determined to save her sister from the fate she escaped. Fish and Wildlife Conservation officer Josh Tanner is fascinated by Delilah from the first time he encounters her at the coffee shop. Though she continually pushes him away, Josh refuses to back off. He's intrigued by the secrets he knows she's keeping. But when the shooting starts his curiosity takes a back seat to his need to protect her. I felt the description of Delilah's research, another reason for her presence in her home town, slowed the action of the story and was superfluous at times. But the Ms. Mann kept the suspense building with a few surprises thrown in. All in all this was a great addition to the Florida Wildlife Warriors series. I received an ARC from NetGalley and voluntarily offer my review.

Connie Mann is a licensed boat captain and loves writing romantic suspense stories set in Florida’s small towns and unspoiled wilderness. She is the author of Beyond Power and Beyond Risk in the Florida Wildlife Warriors series. She also wrote the Safe Harbor series, Angel Falls, and Trapped! After shivering through too many northern winters, this weather wimp has happily called warm, sunny Florida home for more than twenty years.
