Daisy Appleby was one of several children killed in a tragic accident years ago, changing her life forever. Her life ended but only for a short time. She became a test subject for a secret government operation that created Revive. Revive has brought Daisy back five times since the crash, giving her a new name, new location, and a new life each time. After Daisy meets Matt and his sister, Audrey, she begins to question the agency that saved her.
I’ve had my eye on Cat Patrick’s REVIVED (May 2012) for months, and jumped at the chance to devour this intriguing tale of a girl that has knocked on death’s door multiple times, only to be returned to the land of the living. It’s an intriguing concept, although not a new one. It was completely enthralling. From the very first page, you are captivated by Daisy’s story and her personality, only to be introduced to more characters that thrust you further into a corrupt government agency and the life of a teen forever bound to secrets. I just couldn’t get enough of Daisy and her friends.
Daisy’s parental figures were great. I expected them to be over-the-top government agents that would smother her but that didn’t happen. Mason was a breath of fresh air, as far as parents go, giving Daisy the chance to experience life to some degree while managing to protect her in every way he could. I didn’t really care for Cassie from the get-go. She seemed to be distant and didn’t play a major role in the story until the end. Surprisingly enough, she did shock me in the end and it explained a lot about her.
Overall, the story was layered with plenty of emotion, a wild mystery, and a government conspiracy that left me begging for more until the final page. Patrick kept me on the edge of my seat with her brilliant style, character development, and a plot that left me wanting more. I highly recommend REVIVED to teens and adults alike.
