Während der Krise sind die Schwachstellen der globalen Zusammenarbeit und Regulierung sowie die Schwachstellen im Risikomanagement zu Tage getreten. Um für die Zukunft besser gerüstet zu sein, sind neue Ansätze und Lösungen erforderlich. Im Rahmen dieser Überlegungen stellt sich die zentrale Frage: "How might the governance and structure of the global financial system evolve over both the near-term and long-term?" (WEF. 2009. The Future of the Global Financial System. A Near-Term Outlook and Long-Term Scenarios. Genf, S. 4) Im Rahmen dieser Hausarbeit wird dieser Frage für den Zeitraum 2009-2012 und für eine etwas fernere Zukunft (2012-2020) nachgegangen. Bezüglich des Zeitraums 2012-2020 bedient man sich hierzu der Szenario-Analyse.
