About this eBook

Former assassin Vlad Aristov traded his gun for a wrench and now works as a mechanic. Wanted by the U.S. government and Russian Mafia, he dreams of not only being an American citizen, but a free man—which is a dream he knows will never be a reality.

Paranoid recluse and daughter of cult leaders, schoolteacher Lucy Spencer longs for a normal life. Instead, she lives in fear, waiting for the day her parents will finally come for her. And when they do, she knows they’ll have one thing on their mind—murder.

After a repair job brings Vlad and Lucy together, the chemistry between them is undeniable. As their relationship grows, strange things begin to happen to Lucy. Believing Vlad was once a bodyguard she turns to him for help. But that help comes with a price—especially when secrets are revealed and love is betrayed. Can a killer and a paranoid recluse find true love? Or will the past tear them apart?

This book is the start of a new series and kicks off with a beloved character from the Core series fans fell in love with, Vlad Aristov. Vlad is a big Russian ex hit man with a weird sense of humor and speaks of himself in the third person. Even with a past full of death and violence he still has a huge heart and just wanted to love, be loved and have a family. As I was reading this, it took a bit to get used to the change of “scenery”. What I mean by that is its not Core agents chasing down serial killers or psychopaths. It a group of guys that run a repo/repair shop which is how Vlad meets his leading lady as he was tasked with “repoing” her car. Lucy Spencer was an interesting character. She is a school teacher but she is also a woman in hiding from her twisted, murdering cult family. As with everyone when they first meet Vlad she doesn't quite know what to make of him but its not long after she knew she wanted to help him with his English and to have a summer fling with him. The suspense starts to ramp up towards the middle of book and at a climatic scene in the book I had to laugh because my brain when THERE is the sick and twisted mind of the author I know and love. As this the first book we are introduced to some new characters that will be part of Mechanics & Mayhem series along with having some familiar faces from the Core series. I loved that Vlad finally got his HEA. Bonus was getting a sneak peak at the next two books in the series at the end..

Kristine Mason has done it again in Vlad. I loved this book. It's about a giant Russian named Vlad whom she introduced a few books ago. He was made out to be a big bad ass. In this latest installment he found love, got hos American citizenship and lives on a farm with his new wife. Vlad met he by accidentally repossessing her car. Her parents were cult leader who set it up and later tried killing them. This book introduces Vlad to a whole new world and I can't wait to see where they go. GREAT JOB Kristine Mason

Vlad! OMG, I was so excited to finally get this story! Vlad is one of my most favorites and I’m so damn happy he was paired with a strong woman. Lucy Jean was a perfect fit and I do mean a perfect fit. She’s exactly who and what he needed. He broke my heart so many times and I’m just so dang happy for him. The story was solid and flowed at a great pace. And of course the bad guy(s) were what we’ve come to expect from this author. Great book and great start to a new series. I’m one happy girl!
