This book provides a comprehensive introduction to the fundamental concepts of electric drives and is eminently suited as a textbook for B.E./B.Tech., AMIE and diploma courses in electrical engineering. The topics, which range from principles and techniques to industrial applications, include characteristic features of drives, methods of braking and speed control, electromagnetic and solid state control of motors, motor ratings, transients in drive systems, and operation of stepper motors.

DE, NISIT K. NISIT K. DE, PhD, formerly Professor at IIT Kharagpur (1968–2007), is presently Visiting Professor, Department of Electrical Engineering, Narula Institute of Technology, Kolkata. With several papers to his credit in national and international journals. SEN, PRASANTA K. DR. PRASANTA K. SEN (Ph.D.) is Assistant Professor, Department of Electrical Engineering, Regional Engineering College, Durgapur. He has been teaching Electrical Machines and Electrical Machine Design since 1968. He has guided several M.Tech. theses and published ten papers in national and international journals.
