Designed as a text for the students of various engineering streams such as electronics/electrical engineering, electronics and communication engineering, computer science and engineering, IT, instrumentation and control and mechanical engineering, this well-written text provides an introduction to electronic devices and circuits. It introduces to the readers electronic circuit analysis and design techniques with emphasis on the operation and use of semiconductor devices. It covers principles of operation, the characteristics and applications of fundamental electronic devices such as p-n junction diodes, bipolar junction transistors (BJTs), and field effect transistors (FETs), and special purpose diodes and transistors. In its second edition, the book includes a new chapter on “special purpose devices”. What distinguishes this text is that it explains the concepts and applications of the subject in such a way that even an average student will be able to understand working of electronic devices, analyze, design and simulate electronic circuits. Kumar, Balbir Balbir KUMAR, Ph.D. (IIT Delhi), has been Additional Director at Bhagwan Parshuram Institute of Technology, Delhi (2009–2011). Earlier, he served (2006–2009) as Professor in the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering, Maharaja Surajmal Institute of Technology, Delhi. He was with Netaji Subhas Institute of Technology (NSIT), Delhi from 1988–2005, and held various positions such as Head of the Department, Dean, and Director of the Institute. He was the founder Director, Guru Premsukh Memorial College of Engineering, Delhi (2000–2002); and Director, HMR Institute of Technology and Management, Delhi (2005–2006). A life fellow of the Institution of Engineers (India) and IETE; a senior member of IEEE, USA; and a life member of ISTE, Professor Kumar has published more than 77 technical papers in national and international journals of repute. His area of interest is analog and digital signal processing. He is also the author of another book titled Signals and Systems. Jain, Shail B. SHAIL B. JAIN, Ph.D. (University of Delhi), is Professor, Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering, Indira Gandhi Institute of Technology, GGSIP University, Delhi. Since March 2012, she is the Professor-in-charge, PG Studies at IGIT. She has over 31 years of teaching experience at Delhi College of Engineering. A life fellow of IETE and a senior member of IEEE, USA, Professor Jain is a co-author of a book on Linear Integrated Circuits. She has published 30 technical papers in national and international journals. Her field of interest is analog, linear integrated circuits and digital signal processing.
