About the author

Edgar Rice Burroughs (September 1, 1875 – March 19, 1950) was an American author, best known for his prolific output in the adventure and science fiction genres. Burroughs's literary career took off with the publication of his highly successful Tarzan series, starting with 'Tarzan of the Apes' (1912). His imaginative worlds and vivid storytelling also gave rise to the popular Barsoom series, beginning with 'A Princess of Mars' (1912), which shaped early science fiction literature. 'Out of Time's Abyss' (1918), part of his lesser-known Caspak trilogy, exemplifies Burroughs's skill at crafting otherwordly adventures set in a lost land governed by its unique evolutionary hierarchy. His writing is characterized by escapist narratives and fast-paced plots involving heroic quests, savage beasts, and fantastical creatures, often explored through a lens of evolutionary speculation and social Darwinism. Burroughs's works transcended literature, expanding into film, radio, and comic strips, significantly influencing the development of 20th-century popular culture. His tales, while rooted in the sensitivities of their time, have remained enduring classics, capturing the imaginations of generations and cementing Burroughs's legacy as a cornerstone of modern adventure and science fiction literature.
