About the author

Elizabeth Kettenring Dutrey B‚gu‚ was born in Germany in 1853. She operated her restaurant during her marriages to several husbands. She served one meal and one meal only, between breakfast and lunch, which became known across America as brunch. When she died in October 1906, her obituary was posted in the New York Times. It stated, ?MME. BEGUE DEAD: New Orleans?s Famous Cordon Bleu Ruled Her Kitchen for 43 Years.? Headlines shouted New Orleans?s loss across the country and across Europe as well?the famous lady who changed the way America ate had died.
