Tropical Revolving Storms pose an extreme challenge to the mariners; no matter how much information about these is available and accessed on board the ships.
In addition to being able to receive and analyse latest information about TRS, it is important that the mariner has the ability to make onboard observations to detect TRS in proximity. The analysis based on observed detection or information should allow the mariner to make an informed decision to clear the TRS and ensure safety of life, environment and the ship/cargo.
This practical guide has been put together sequentially. It provides step-by-step guidance on various technical issues relating to TRS. It also includes well illustrated examples and exercises that will help the mariner in developing the necessary skills for dealing with a TRS when faced with it.
When in an area where TRS are likely, the mariner must at all times challenge all information, question everything, be suspicious and be inquisitive; and at the end make a well informed decision.
