This valuable supplement has been written to present essential scales and scale studies for the beginning student. The scales are presented in various rhythms and patterns, including arpeggios. All of the various patterns presented can be used with each scale. The fingerings included present viable ways to approach the scales, but other fingerings can be explored. Various rhythms and bowings may also be applied to practicing the scales. All major scales are presented in two and three octave patterns. All minor scales are presented in three octave patterns. Chromatic scales of two and three octaves are also included. These scales can form an important part of any violin student's practice.

Craig Duncan, a member of the North American Fiddler's Hall of Fame and Who's Who in Music and Musicians has been the featured instrumentalist on over ninety record albums, with sales in excess of five million copies. His music has been heard on TV shows Malcolm in the Middle and The Oprah Winfrey Show, as well as on programs on A&E, Biography, BET, PBS, History and other cable channels. He has produced numerous recordings for the gift shop market in a variety of musical styles. He is also recognized internationally for his many books and arrangements of fiddle and violin music published by Mel Bay Publications. He has recorded for artists including Randy Travis, Billy Dean, Kathy Mattea, Charlie McCoy and Roy Clark. He also performed as a musician on the Grand Ole Opry for 2 years and has worked live shows with many artists. Performing live is a big part of his love for music.
