About the author

Michael S. Sagiv received his PhD in exercise physiology from The University of Wisconsin, Madison WI, USA in 1982. Michael was a football player at the national and international level. Dr Sagiv is a distinguished researcher and an emeritus professor, and was the president of the Wingate College, Wingate, Israel from 1999 to 2009. He established the Wingate College Human and Biogenetics Exercise Physiology Laboratory in 1982 and served as its head for over 17 years. In addition, from 1984 t0 2007 Michael was a lecturer in the department of physiology and pharmacology, faculty of medicine at the Tel Aviv University, Israel. Dr Sagiv has written and coauthored more than 200 publications over the course of his career, including 2 books, 6 book chapters, peer-reviewed articles (90), and lay publication. He served as the editor in chief of the European Review of Aging and Physical Activity for the last 6 years. He was president of the European Group for research into Aging and Physical Activity from 1998 to 2005, a member of its board of trustees for 15 years, and a recipient of ACSM young researcher Award. Many of his former students are now leaders in the field of exercise physiology. From 1984 to 2007 Michael was a lecturer in the department of physiology and pharmacology, faculty of medicine at the University of Tel Aviv, Israel. As an exercise physiologist, Michael works closely with cardiac patients in the rehabilitation center that He established at the Wingate College in 1982 and served as its head for over 25 years.
