Just a heads up: Rambling, gushing, and probably nonsensical review incoming. Holy hell, I don’t know how Pepper Winters does it, but she manages to slay me every single time with her words. With her way of storytelling. With her beautifully vivid and emotional prose. Casting spells and weaving tales that I know will slowly kill me, yet I can’t help but devour her books every single time. Needless to say, I finished reading with my mind in tatters. It’s been days but I think I still have not fully recuperated. Kassen. Poor, tortured, savage Kassen. He’s unlike any other hero I’ve ever encountered. A broken, abused, lost wild beast of a man. Why does he live in this hidden, secluded mansion in the middle of nowhere? What happened to him? Why does this enormous building with twenty bedrooms exist hidden in a ravine in the first place?
