It's needless to say that it's been a wild ride with Kassen and Gemma. I'll miss them but I'm sure they'll show up in the next Fables series couple. A lot happens in the 20-something chapters this last installment of Kass and Gem's story. It gives us the closure for these two characters. Kass' development is outstanding. He's grown so much from the first book. It's beautiful to see his process to heal as a survivor of human trafficking. Gemma has become more open-minded about accepting who Kass is and what he's been through. She's willing to help him and love him to her dying breath. This is not a complaint against Ms. Winters, or even the first 2 Fable books. I loved all of them, even while they filled me with anguish. But book 3 is like a really long, drawn-out epilogue - with more epilogues added to the end of that! There's no conflict beyond internal at all. I kept hoping for some sort of suspenseful twist, misunderstood family drama, political subterfuge, some of the delightfully complex writing that Monsters used to stretch my emotions through the wringer. And there were lots of opportunities! (examples below) ** SPOILERS BEYOND THIS POINT ** - when Kas is meeting the upper crust for the first time in a big way, he recognizes someone from Fables, perhaps just by voice? - those rich & powerful degenerants HAVE to want Kas shut up before he exposes them? I want Kas and his lady to win in the end, but sunshine, roses and the occasional internal termoil gets ...boring? - - - ❤ Love to all. There isn't enough in the world right now ❤ - - -

3.5 stars The third and final book of Fable of Happiness series by Pepper Winters brings the well earned happily ever after for Kassen and Gemma. After going through a never ending emotional nightmare, this book is about healing and rebirth. Gemma Ashford has stumbled upon the cursed mansion in middle of deep forest where Kass lived years of his life. He survived horrific abuse and trauma and that altered him permanently. And now by twist of fate Gemma and Kassen is back to civilization. Will Kassen become stable and less fractured for their future? So this story definitely had a change of pace and vibes. It was less dark and less complex. The only complications came from Kassen's volatile reactions to the triggers and Gemma was really an angel for him. It had all the dark dirty desires and perverse acts of lust but also a connection beyond normal understanding. For me, the story left so many things unresolved. ( I reviewed an early copy voluntarily)
