About this ebook

A tortured mercenary and a genetically engineered assassin fall in love while running for their lives in this high-octane cyberpunk romance adventure.

“Steinmetz expertly fuses cyberpunk staples and romantic comedy elements to deliver an over-the-top, action-packed tale while also addressing mental illness and body issues.” —Publishers Weekly (starred review)

Meet Mat, a tortured mercenary who has become the perfect shot, and Silvia, an idealistic woman genetically engineered to murder you to death.

Together they run from the shadiest corporation in the world . . . and realize their messed-up brain chemistry cannot overpower their very real chemistry . . .

Automatic Reload is the genre’s most unexpectedly heartfelt romantic comedy with explosions, perfect for fans of both Altered Carbon and Atomic Blonde.

“Fast-paced shoot-em-up violence with a compassionate treatment of trauma and mental illness. Like Shadowrun with a conscience.” —Hugo Award–winning author Jim C. Hines

“Luxuriates in the intricate beauty that is technology, exults in the mechanics of cyberpunk. And it does all this while being a rom-com with a lot of explosions.” —Cassandra Khaw, finalist for the British Fantasy and Locus Awards for Hammers on Bone

Literally just finished reading this book and it was great. I love the way the author portrayed the whole elegant mess of cyborg combat, and I don't think I've seen the need for maintenance anywhere else! But probably the best and hardest thing about this book to pull off is the two main characters and their conditions. I have no experience with either PTSD or panic disorders but this certainly looked very realistic to me. And the sheer amount of plot that was packed into a single 24 hour (ish, very ish) period was a little shocking, I've gotten too used to books that cover months and years instead of hours.
