Homero Bocanegra
Fantastic read, an a absolutely fun start to the whole deal. You get enough information on all the characters to proceed, but the initial world building is somewhat lacking. The battles are much the same way, although that's a plus since one doesn't want to be bogged down with specifications. Overall the book is a great introduction, and there's enough there for any military sci-fi fan to enjoy. I look forward to reading the rest.

A first-rate read, in keeping with the tradition the author began with the Redemption trilogy. Like all the Kreelan novels, it is not for the squemish: Michael Hicks is writing about war-to-the-knife, and he does not sugarcoat it. Nor should he have. The novel and the entire series are superlatively written, and Hicks has crafted an alien race and culture as rich and vibrant as only a master craftsman can create. If you miss this one, you'll be kicking yourself in the pants for years.

First Contact (In Her Name: The Last War Trilogy, Book 1) An excellent read and I am looking forward to reading the rest of the series and other books by Michael R. Hicks. 1st new author I've tried in a long time and I hit big time.
