A gripping story, full of martial arts, magic, and family angst. Kind of like The Godfather, but with a few pleasantly surprising twists. I highly recommend it and can't wait for the next book in the series.

Fonda Lee does a fantastic job in blending gangsta/ Kung fu and magic into Jade City. All the characters were well developed, and the historical elements and religions lore were intertwined beautifully. I look forward to book 2!!!

I'm at the age where I don't typically use "cool" to describe anything but this was a cool novel complete with gangsters, magic, politics, etc...
