Sobre o autor

Dr. Lilian U. Thompson obtained her Ph.D. from University of Wisconsin in Madison and is currently a full professor in the Department of Nutritional Sciences, Faculty of Medicine, University of Toronto, Canada. She is internationally recognized for her research on components of plant foods responsible for their health benefits and/or adverse effects, their interactions with drugs, and the mechanisms of their action. She has published numerous papers in refereed journals, book chapters, and books, presented many invited papers in conferences and symposia, and served in several research granting councils and expert committees. Dr. Wendy E. Ward obtained a Ph.D. in Medical Sciences from McMaster University, Canada, held a National Institute of Nutrition Postdoctoral Fellowship at the University of Toronto, and is currently an assistant professor in the Department of Nutritional Sciences, Faculty of Medicine, University of Toronto, Canada. Her research is focused on the mechanisms by which dietary estrogens and fatty acids regulate bone metabolism, with the long term goal of developing dietary strategies that protect against fragility fracture. Dr. Ward has published many peer-reviewed articles in the area of nutrition and bone health and book chapters on nutrition and women’s health issues, particularly osteoporosis. Dr. Ward was an awardee of a Future Leader Award from the International Life Sciences Institute.
