The General Data Protection Regulation is the latest, and one of the most stringent, regulations regarding Data Protection to be passed into law by the European Union. Fundamentally, it aims to protect the Rights and Freedoms of all the individuals included under its terms; ultimately the privacy and security of all our personal data. This requirement for protection extends globally, to all organisations, public and private, wherever personal data is held, processed, or transmitted concerning any EU citizen.

Cyber Security is at the core of data protection and there is a heavy emphasis on the application of encryption and state of the art technology within the articles of the GDPR. This is considered to be a primary method in achieving compliance with the law. Understanding the overall use and scope of Cyber Security principles and tools allows for greater efficiency and more cost effective management of Information systems.

GDPR and Cyber Security for Business Information Systems is designed to present specific and practical information on the key areas of compliance to the GDPR relevant to Business Information Systems in a global context.

Key areas covered include:

● Principles and Rights within the GDPR

● Information Security

● Data Protection by Design and Default

● Implementation Procedures

● Encryption methods

● Incident Response and Management

● Data Breaches

An associate of The Cyber Academy, Antoni first developed an interest in cryptocurrencies and distributed ledger technology whilst on the LLB course at Edinburgh Napier University. A natural consequence of which was a growing understanding of the importance of data protection law in supporting the human right to privacy. Extensive business experience in design and supply chain management enhances her ability to apply academic knowledge to achieve practical real-world solutions; for business and research. Currently working on several projects, Antoni's main focus is on developing educational tools for all age groups, on the topic of data protection, and researching the commercial applications of blockchain technology for enhanced food security. This latter focus has multiple areas for research including; sustainable urban agriculture (including vertical farming), supply chain management, full-cycle food provenance, and the real-time measurement of economic impacts arising from urban Agritech.

Connor Fowler, an associate of the Cyber Academy (Edinburgh Napier University) is a graduate of Economics from Heriot-Watt University. He has international experience in risk management, working on alternative energy projects in Mumbai and gas and oil projects in Dubai. His experience in risk management coupled with specialised knowledge on the GDPR allows him to bring business reality and academic theory together. He is currently working on a project researching the impact of distributed ledger technologies on economic principles, the project has the working title; Encryptonomics: Living in a Decentralised Economy. This hypothesis investigates existing economic theories of money and information relevant to the disruptive capacity of distributed ledger technologies, such as cryptocurrencies.

William (Bill) Buchanan is a Professor in the School of Computing at Edinburgh Napier University, and a Fellow of the BCS, and the IET, and a Principle Fellow of the HEA. He was appointed an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in the 2017 Birthday Honours for services to cyber security. Bill recently received an "Outstanding Contribution to Knowledge Exchange" award at the Scottish Knowledge Exchange awards, and was the Cyber Evangelist of the Year in 2016. Currently he leads the Centre for Distributed Computing, Networks, and Security and The Cyber Academy (thecyberacademy.org). His research has led to three successful spin-out companies, and has developed a number of patents. He has been named as one of the Top 100 people for Technology in Scotland for every year since 2012, and was also included in the Future Scot "Top 50 Scottish Tech People Who Are Changing The World".
