 Herbal Technology: Recent Trends and Progress is a comprehensive book on the various trends and the aspects of this recent branch of Botany. Herbal Technology encompasses all the myriads of ways of utilizing the multifarious potentialities of plants for human welfare.There are presently five aspects such as Medicinal plants, Natural dyes, Biopesticides, Biofertilizers and Biofuel in this discipline, though more and more may added by the brilliant workers who tread this path at a later stage. Medicinal plants which form the first section contains a number of papers dealing with biomarkers, both pharmacognostic and phytochemical, on a good number of medicinal plants as well as many ethnobotanical surveys. Natural Dyes form the second section and it covers the application of dyes from six plants such as Rohira, Katha, Ravenchi wood, Annatto, Babool, banana on various textiles. In the section on Biofertilizers papers on the utility of marine algae, blue green algae and Am fungi are included. In the last section, Biofuels, the utility of biogas as well as a number of new sources of fatty oils have been presented. This book will serve as a reference book for students, teachers and workers of Medicinal plants, Natural Dyes, Biopesticides, Biofertilisers and Biofuel.

About the author

M. Daniel

Prof. M. Daniel is an eminent academician, teacher and a scientist. He had served as The Head, Department of Botany and Dean, Faculty of Science of the prestigious Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda, Vadodara. He has a research experience of over 40 years and teaching experience of 35 years. He has more than 150 research articles in various peer-reviewed National and International journals to his credit. Prof. Daniel has authored 11 books of International repute. His areas of research interest are Phytochemistry, Medicinal plants, Chemotaxonomy and Herbal Technology for which he is considered as an authority. He has guided 17 students for their Ph. Ds and conducted a number of research projects funded by UGC, DST and NMPB. Known widely for his oratorial skills, he has travelled far and wide to popularize Plant Sciences especially Angiosperm Taxonomy and Medicinal Plants.


Arun Arya

Dr. Arun Arya, Professor of Botany and Co-ordinator, Seed Technology Programme in The M.S. University of Baroda. He is a Botanist, Phytopathologist, Philatelist & popular Science writer. He obtained his Doctorate from University of Allahabad in 1983. Dr. Arya started his teaching career as lecture in Microbiology at Gurukul Kangri University, Hardwar in 1985. With the start of Seed Technology programme he was made co-ordinator in 2001. Dr. Arya is a recipient of Young Scientist award of DST, New Delhi in 1986. He has worked as a senior research fellow and post doctoral research fellow of CSIR, New Delhi. He has published more than 100 research papers and 7 books. He has reported three new species of Phomopsis and several new fruit rot diseases. For the first time different fungi have been reported by his research group from objects like paper, cloth and Egyptian mummy kept in Baroda Museum and Picture Gallery. Ecofriendly plant parts obtained from rhizome, leaf and flower extracts were used to control different fungal pathogens. He has presented his research findings in XV International Botanical Congress at Yokohama in Japan in 1993 and 12th World Forestry Congress in Qubec City Canada in 2003. He had an honour to co-chair a session on Eco-regions in this International Congress.


Vinay M. Raole

Dr. Vinay M. Raole is a Senior Lecturer in Department of Botany in The Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda, Vadodara. He obtained Ph.D. from M.S. University on Cytotaxonomy of rare and endangered plants and published four research articles. His areas of research interest are Biodiversity, Floristics and Cytotaxonomy.
