I have been a fan of the romantic suspense genre since I first discovered it years ago. I love when I find an author who does it well, and Leslie A. Kelly is absolutely a master at her craft. Watching You is the first book in her Hollywood Heat series that centers around the Winchester siblings, with eldest brother Reece getting his story first. I will put it out there that the mystery of the Winchester siblings will span the series, but the set up is done so well in Watching You, I can't wait to read the next 2 books in the series. I have to say that initially Reece Winchester worried me a bit when he first saw Jessica Jensen. I honestly expected to see him be more upfront about his attraction rather than having a few stalker-like tendencies. I got with him being Reece Winchester, he had to be extra careful, but it seemed like he was almost trying to direct their first meeting. As Jessica was willing to accept his apology, I was able to let it go as well. I really loved the chemistry between Reece and Jessica, as they were smoking hot together. I found myself loving how protective Reece was of Jessica without being too over the top. I loved that Jesica was an aspiring screen writer. I knew as soon as we met her advisor I didn't trust him not to screw her over. I hated her first experience with someone in the Hollywood writing world was so unscrupulous, but was really glad she had Reece in her corner to make sure her ideas and interest were protected. I honestly expected Jessica to be a bit stronger than she appeared based upon past female characters written by Ms. Kelly. I knew based upon her past, she was a very strong person to survive and flourish as she has. I just wanted her to take control a few times rather than let Reece step in. The suspense elements in Watching You were absolutely perfect. I loved at least part of the mystery will last over the entire series. I will say there was not a cliff hanger feel to the mystery, even though certain aspects were revealed at the end of the book. Ms Kelly kept me on the edge of my seat through much of Watching You. I absolutely can't wait to see where Ms. Kelly takes us in the next 2 books in this series. I already have Wanting You, book 2 in the Hollywood Heat series on my to-be-read list. The first book in Hollywood Heat Series, Watching You, is another great read from my favourite romantic suspense author Leslie Kelly! It’s a playful twist star-struck attraction in this novel. This time, it’s the former movie-star turned director Reece who feels an instant attraction to the average-looking, sweaty, red-headed jogger visiting his Aunt’s art gallery. But Jessica Jensen is not about to follow the script Reece has planned. To top things off, someone keeps taking attempts at their lives – but who is the target Jessica or Reece? Who is the villain? Is it a business rival, Jessica’s ex or one of Reece’s jealous and obsessed fans? I’ll admit it, right away my emotions were on edge as I initially hated Reece for what seemed to be his arrogant and controlling personality. I felt equally ashamed for Jessica, who came across as weak and submissive. They were such intense feelings, and for that, Leslie should be commended for her strong character development. I found myself wanting to read more and more needing to understand these characters. By the second chapter I had already “forgiven” the characters for their faux pas and perhaps understood the reason(s) driving their behaviour. I’ve always enjoyed Leslie’s use of voice in all her novels. The dialogue flows easily and always proves realistic to her characters. Leslie’s sense of humour is what initially drew me to her writing and once again, she didn’t disappoint. Jessica’s sarcasm provides for much comic relief throughout the story, particularly in contrast to Reece’s more controlled and calculated persona. Playful banter between the Winchester brothers seemed genuine and familiar and provides a good setup for the next novels in this series. I related to Jessica’s no-bull attitude and inner struggle to prove her place in the world despite a hard upbringing. Throughout the novel Leslie was able to draw upon both the direct contrasts in lifestyles of the rich and famous to the pay cheque to pay cheque life of Jessica, while exposing mutual similarities and vulnerabilities. I was reeled in and engaged as I followed along with real-life situations, actions and outcomes. Leslie’s influences from and references to current pop culture only emphasized her strong wit and sarcasm. Needless to say, I read it quickly. If you haven’t read a Leslie Kelly novel, you’re missing out!

This story pulls you into a world of glitter, mystery, ambition, passion and danger. An emotionally thrilling, action packed, edge of your seat panting for more romantic adventure. Aspiring screenwriter Jessica Jensen is sexy, sassy, strong, creative and a waitress living with her sister and looking to the future. Reece Winchester is sexy, strong, charming and Hollywood's hottest Actor, director, millionaire, and gorgeous mystery man-he's every woman's fantasy. They cross paths by shear luck and the chemistry between them is undeniable but danger lurks and secrets long berried are surfacing. Looking forward to more Winchester men and their exciting stories.
