For the particular use of the Fleet it is believed that a neutron survey meter for use around nuclear reactors should be calibrated in both moderated and unmoderated fluxes of fission neutrons. The doserate, however, corresponding to such a calibration is to be calculated down to neutron energies of 50 kev, since the principal hazard is believed to be the possibility of cataract formation from irradiation of the eye with fast neutrons. The question is discussed briefly whether the doserates from moderated and unmoderated fluxes of fission on neutrons would be sufficiently different to make worthwhile different doserate curves corresponding to counting rates with the two kinds of fluxes. The results of sample calculations of doserate and counting rates with approximate spectra are shown graphically.
