About this eBook

Introduction to Product Design and Development for Engineers provides guidelines and best practices for the design, development, and evaluation of engineered products. Created to serve fourth year undergraduate students in Engineering Design modules with a required project, the text covers the entire product design process and product life-cycle, from the initial concept to the design and development stages, and through to product testing, design documentation, manufacturability, marketing, and sustainability. Reflecting the author's long career as a design engineer, this text will also serve as a practical guide for students working on their capstone design projects.

About the author

Dr. Ali Jamnia is an electro-mechanical design and product development engineer, who received his PhD from Clemson University, where his primary area of research was application of finite element methods to the hydrodynamic equations in the presence of shock waves and nonlinear fluid-solid interaction. He has extensive experience in innovative product development from concept to market, as well as sustaining product experience; and expertise in analytical product design and in failure analysis and resolution using DMAIC. Dr. Jamnia joined Baxter Healthcare in 2010, where he holds the position of Engineering Specialist. In short, Dr. Jamnia is a mechanical engineer with many years of innovative product development from concept to market as well as sustaining product experience. He has expertise in analytical product design as well as failure analysis and resolution using DMAIC. In this regard, he has an in-depth understanding of transfer functions and their development. Dr. Jamnia has been the lead engineering in launching 10 products (or product families) and has 12 patent applications published of which 9 patents have been issued. He has published over 20 technical papers and presentations. He received his Ph.D. from Clemson Univ. where his primary area of research was application of finite element methods to the hydrodynamic equations in the presence of shock waves and nonlinear fluid-solid interaction.
