The author was born in Memphis, Tennessee, and grew up living well below the poverty line with his six older brothers and sisters. Always wanting to be a policeman or join the military, he knew the first step was to stay out of trouble, stay focused, and finish high school. The author was the first child in his family to graduate high school and join the military. Wanting a better life for himself and his future family, the author decided to make a career out of the military and devoted the next twenty-plus years of his life serving his country. The author utilized military benefits to earn his associate degree while he was serving his country. After retiring from military service, the author utilized his remaining military benefits to earn his bachelor’s degree and his master’s degree. The author is married and has four children, is gainfully employed, and has friends of every nationality and ethnic group. The author has lived in different areas of the United States and has travelled to different parts of the world and has gained firsthand knowledge of how other races view African Americans in the United States. The author’s main goals in life are to provide for and take care of his family; to make sure his kids are healthy, are well-disciplined, and get the education needed to survive out in the real world; to make sure his entire family positively contributes to the African American race and their community; and to be upstanding citizens with love and respect for their country.
