Ausgangspunkt ist der seit 2006 zunehmende 'Party-Nationalismus', der in Deutschland zu beobachten ist. Es wird nach Gründen gefragt, wieso Fußball scheinbar besonders anfällig für Nationalismus ist. Dazu werden drei Annährungen gewählt (sportimmanent bzw. strukturell, akteurszentriert mit Bezug auf das Publikum sowie die Medien) und auf ihr Erklärungspotential geprüft.
