John Stuart Mill, filósofo inglés, economista político, funcionario y miembro del Parlamento, fue un influyente pensador liberal del siglo XIX. Fue un exponente del utilitarismo, una teoría ética desarrollada por Jeremy Bentham, aunque su concepción de la misma era muy diferente de la de Bentham.
