Immer mehr Landwirte entdecken in der Erzeugung von Bioenergie ein lukratives Geschäft und sichern sich dadurch ein zweites wirtschaftliches Standbein. In den vergangenen fünf Jahren hat sich in Deutschland die Fläche, auf der nachwachsende Rohstoffe angebaut werden, auf 1,6 Millionen Hektar verdoppelt das sind bereits 13 Prozent der gesamten Ackerfläche. Rentabel ist vor allem das Geschäft mit Biogas: Im Vergleich zu Biodiesel ist der Ertrag dreimal höher. Der Einsatz von Biogas im großen Stil ist derzeit allerdings noch Zukunftsmusik. Denn noch kostet Biogas doppelt so viel wie Erdgas.
