About this eBook

Dark terrors await on the frontier of space…

When disgraced officer Hayden Kaine is exiled to an outdated military starship stationed on the fringes of the galaxy, his biggest worry is how he can rescue his career. But after the vessel is trapped in a quarantined star system, survival becomes his only concern.

With the crippled ship hunted by a relentless enemy, Kaine unexpectedly finds himself thrust into the captain’s seat; a role for which he is not ready, and which most of the surviving crew do not accept.

While the enemy amasses an invasion force that will overwhelm the unsuspecting Confederation, Kaine must stave off a mutiny long enough to warn Earth of the danger. If he fails, the empire will fall and humanity will be doomed to extinction by a foe whose existence defies the laws of physics.

If you love the science fiction works of Heinlein, Clarke or Asimov, try D.M. Pruden’s rousing space opera adventure, Kaine’s Sanction, the first book in the Shattered Empire series.

Hayden Kaine is a young man embarking on his first mission for the Earth Confederation. As he starts out, he's posted to an outdated starship in the farthest reaches of known space. It should've been a routine mission, but an unforeseen disaster strands the Scimitar and her crew at the edge of the galaxy with no way to get home. Dangers lurk everywhere and very soon, Kaine and his crew find themselves fighting for their lives, and perhaps even the future of their Confederation! I've read a number of D.M. Pruden's books now, and I'm always impressed with his ability to build worlds with his words. He creates interesting, yet diverse characters that are believable. All of the scenery comes alive to the reader. From page 1 there's action, conflict and some lighter moments that bring a smile. I thoroughly recommend this book, and all from this author. I received a free copy and am voluntarily leaving my review.
