Under några år på sextiotalet var Lars Gustafsson redaktör för en litterär tidskrift, och refuserade då naturligtvis stora mängder av poesi. Ibland hände det att någon poet, som hade refuserats alltför många gånger blev otålig och skrev och frågade hur egentligen en dikt skulle se ut för att vara bra poesi. Den här lilla boken innehåller Lars Gustafssons svar. Dikturvalet som ligger till grund för dessa analyser sträcker sig från Stormaktstidens allra tidigaste poesi till våra dagar.
Lars Gustafsson, född 1936, debuterade 1957 med romanen Vägvila och har sedan dess utkommit med ett åttiotal böcker, däribland romaner, diktsamlingar och essäsamlingar.
