Eden Chambers paced back and forth, upset with herself that she had turned someone who hadn’t even known that paranormals existed! Todd had gone on a rampage, and if she hadn’t turned the man, and after all it wasn’t his fault, the human would have died. The man on her bed began to wake up. He grabbed her hand and she thought she might have felt a zing of electricity, but she ignored it. Asking what he remembered, she filled in the information for him that he was now a vampire. Eden and Tony attended the Elders meeting where Tony was introduced and Todd’s death was discussed. Tony was taking it all very well, pretty much glad to find that there was so much more in the world than just humans. He also found himself feeling very protective of Eden, which made no sense since she was several hundred years old and more than capable of taking care of herself. Eden likewise was noticing a desire to take his hand more often than she should. She was attracted to him. He pulled her toward himself and kissed her as she kissed him back. He saw images of biting her and jumped back, until she laughingly said it was not from hunger but from kissing her. Then she invited him to test things out and see for himself. Tony bit her neck perfectly, his instincts guiding him. Then she bit him, and it was so good that her fangs actually lengthened inside him. She noted it was odd, but continued. It wasn’t until they were resting side by side that she realized what that meant! She sat upright and scrambled off the bed to track down someone she needed to talk to urgently! Oddly enough, it was Tony who recognized a man at the party – he worked with Kemnebi Davis yet had no idea the man was a shifter. It was his sister-in-law, Aella Dentro, Eden had been looking for, and Aella invited her to walk with her while they talked. Aella indicated she needed Eden’s help with the necromancers. Eden used their talk to ask about shifters mating with non-shifters – and admitted a shocking secret that she was a shifter herself! Aella had not known a vampire could also be a shifter. But Eden was concerned that her shifter side had mated and she wanted to know if it was permanent. Aella and Eden agreed to help each other out with their respective problems. Tony came out to the garden and put his arms around Eden. For the second time in her life, she told her secret – she was born a shifter. It should not be possible, but it was. Instead of being upset, Tony wanted to see her shift. Yes, there was something definite between them. Is he her mate? Can she even have a mate, being a vampire? This shouldn’t be happening, but she thinks it may be true. How can she find out for sure? I enjoyed this story. It’s a very slow-moving story line, but not in a bad way. It probably would have more zing if we experienced the fight in the alley, for example, rather than just hearing the facts. But it was a very gentle love story as Tony accepts everything that has happened to him so calmly and accepts Eden completely. Eden has a more difficult time since she isn’t sure if what they have is even possible! Even without wild excitement, this is still a good story that I did enjoy and would recommend to others. I especially enjoy recognizing characters from the other books in the series. It’s comfortable and feels like coming home!

The Vampire's Bite is about Eden and Tony and Eden’s secret. This story takes another step into the politics in this universe and how they are making them better. It is not necessary to read the others to enjoy this one. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving my honest review.

Eden is an elder on the Council and Tony is a human who is caught in the middle of an evil vampire attack. I loved the way the author brought Eden and Tony together and how they find out they are mates. I am loving each of these novellas in The Paranormal Council series and I look forward to reading the rest of the series.

About the author

Laura really needs to get around to writing a better biography. She's great at doing them for her friends, but not so much for herself. Until then...she's a USA Today Bestselling Author of Paranormal, Reverse Harem & Fantasy Romance...the romance being the important bit! From kelpies to dragons, and princesses to bakers, there's a wide range of heroines, with one thing in common: they know how to look after themselves. (But the romance is fun too!)

When she's not writing, you can find Laura reading, cooking, baking or binge watching one of three TV shows. Or Pitch Perfect. She's been known to watch that a couple of times in a day.
