Mackenzie will do whatever she needs to keep the woman who are hiding in a disused fort safe she has already made her self person non grata with her brother in law Sheikh Al-Madiza over the matter and now she needs to talk to Issam the Al-Dashalid sheikh responsible for his countries security. When she is on her way to a meeting with him she has to swerve to avoid hitting a child (Inan the son of Kyril's book 1 in this series) after nearly been mowed down by a truck that swerves leads to her hitting a mosque and the punishment for that is death. Issam sees all this happen and has to find a way to circumvent the old laws and the only thing he can find is that the royal family is immune from these laws so he suggest that Mackenzie marry him this also helps him as the law says he has to be married by his thirtieth birthday which is fast approaching. There will be plenty of drama between these two as Issam tries to solve the problem of the disputed fort with his neighbours while Mackenzie works to save the women if they would only communicate they might find the solution between them. Another great fun read from the very talented Leslie North whose books are always great fun

Issam’s brother Kyril called him up to ask if he would go to the mosque and pick up his 5-year-old child Inan from his class. Although Issam was busy as well, his brother was even busier meeting with the Canadian ambassador in thirty minutes and did not have time to go himself. As he sat in his car, Issam pulled out his phone. Like his brothers, the males needed to be married by the age of thirty to keep their positions in the royal family. He wasn’t willing to settle for anyone, so he gathered a dossier on potential wives who met his criteria. He wanted a calm woman, but no love involved – he had responsibilities and wanted no distractions. Inan walked out of the mosque just as a car ran the light, heading for a woman who tried to drive out of his way. Traffic was so thick that she had nowhere to move and headed right toward the mosque and Inan! She swerved to avoid all the children but hit part of the mosque. Issam saw it was about to collapse and ran to her to get her out of the car and grab Inan before they were crushed under the rubble. As a crowd congratulated him on the rescue, she recognized Sheikh Issam, the man she had come here to meet! She tried to talk to him, but things were still hectic. A man from the mosque approached them and told Issam that Ms. Peters, according to the ancient religious laws, must be put to death for damaging the mosque! Switching to their language, she told the man that those laws were bound by the nature of human life; the stone can be rebuilt, but the children would have died if she had not swerved into the column. She was sure he would relent – but he didn’t. Bahir told Issam that Ms. Peters was an American that President Mulazim of Al-Madiza had sent to them as his representative for diplomatic negotiations. This would be a PR nightmare if they executed her! The law was real, but it had not been carried out for hundreds of years. Their legal team was researching their options. Issam went to watch Inan’s football game with Kyril and Hannah. He talked to Kyril about the only way to save Mackenzie – by marrying her. They would gain political and military advantages, and it would save her life because death sentences would not apply to members of the royal family. It would also solve his marriage requirement. He saw it as a business arrangement and nothing more, despite Kyril’s warning that she would have full royal rights and may not be as grateful as Issam imagines. It will take compromise and he should be aware of what she might want in return. Issam had Mackenzie brought to him and told her the only way out was through marriage. She shocked him by being overjoyed at the news! He didn’t know she was a lawyer and had already come to that same conclusion. He had expected to do more convincing. They met with the imam at the mosque and they had 30 days to marry. She thanked Issam for saving her. Not only that, but she was getting exactly what she wanted: access and influence in the land dispute, and the power to do something about it. Issam’s imagined easy victory was about to cause a major upheaval in his life! How would he be able to manage his soon-to-be wife? This was a fun story that I thoroughly enjoyed. As with all of this author’s books, it was well-written with a great story line and wonderful characters. Grab your copy – the fun is about to start!

I really enjoyed this story. Issa and MacKenzie made a great couple. MacKenzie was on her way to see Issa but before she could meet him to avoid a wreck she ended up crashing into one of the holiest buildings in his country. IssaM turns out to be hero in more than one way. He needs a wife so to protect MacKenzie from the death penalty he makes a deal with her to marry him so that she could live. MacKenzie turns out to be the ister in law of the Sheik bordering his country. They have all been in dispute. Mackenzie was trying to save these bused women that have been living in this fort that is surrounding all three countries, These two make a strong couple. I live how they both didn't give up and I loved watching Issam, the all work and no play fall in love. Once he realizes that sometimes you need help. Power couple!!! I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
