When leaving a review, I try to consider the fact that all art is a labor of time and care. That having been said, this was an exercise in mediocrity. The character development was by and large a series of tragedies and banal dialogue. The tone of the writing is suited for a coming-of-age YA series, a rather high degree of contrast to the violence and death that form a large percentage of the material. In these books, the author struggles to give value to female characters outside of their interaction with the men in the story-- more specifically, none of the feminine-voiced sections can get by without being portrayed as delicate creatures pretending to be strong-willed, and sex-fixated. Unlikely copulation and middling-at-best bodily function humor permeate the writing, often seeming as if someone's tween child was the target audience while being well outside the realm of Young Adult Fiction. I can't remember if I paid for this series, but I'll have a scoffing grunt for further recommendations from this author.

Enjoyed the books. I don't know whether it's the authors first attempt- definitely got more (can't think of the right words),better, deeper, more compelling- the writer gets better as the story unfolds. I don't mean to be insulting, a good story for younger readers and interesting for us older readers (I'm 67). Looking forward to reading the next book. And your next work (I'm a big fan of fantasy and magic s/f). Thank you for the introduction to your writings. 3 1/2 🤩

A very enjoyable read. Each book has a complete story that expertly continues into the next, although it it still has its own conclusion. A bit of romance in all 3 books but nothing overwhelming. I found it refreshing that the book had a bit of magic along with technology as lots of books that have magic seem to be taking place on very primitive worlds.
