Halkhata is a memoir of Muhammad Abdul Malik (1913-1996), written in the period 1989-90. It is apparently genealogical description but gives a vivid picture of rural Bengal in the period 1900 to 1990.

About the author

 M A Malik got his Bachelor of Arts from Victoria College in Comilla, then under Calcutta University in the year 1938, the year he got married. In the same year he got a job in Post and Telegraph Department and he was posted in Assam. He worked in the same Department but in three periods of British India, Pakistan and Bangladesh until he retired in the year 1973. He worked in Lamding, Tinsukia, Chandpur, Akhaura, Barisal, Laksham, Chittagong and Dhaka.
