About this ebook

What happens when becoming a father is no longer a choice?

Sam Maxwell is looking forward to graduating from college. After breaking up with his on-again, off-again girlfriend for good, his life is suddenly derailed by a summons to Family Court. Wisconsin's pro-birth laws declare him the biological father of an embryo, which has been appointed a ward of the state.

Struggling with the sudden loss of his athletic scholarship, friends, and freedom after being placed under house arrest, Sam fights to keep his sense of self as his stubborn partner tries to force her own agenda. When a bad decision crosses the line set by the court, the angry young man faces devastating criminal charges . . . for a child that may not be his.

Will Sam forge a path through this autocratic nightmare before his life is completely unraveled?

Set in 2028, The Fatherhood Mandate is a captivating and dark dystopian novel that explores the mind-bending question of what bodily autonomy means to our society.

This was a great idea as a thriller novel, the overall feel worked wonders and had a unique concept. The writing was so well done with how M. E. Wright wrote this and am excited for more in this world. It uses the court system concept perfectly and was on the edge of my seat. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Very thought provoking Reviewed in the United States on July 18, 2023 There are two sides to evey story. This one is from Sam, who is propelled into an unplanned pregnancy, with an added twist. The imagination and detail of the State program is believable and wouldn't be too surprised to see something similar in the future. Congratulations on your first book!

About the author

M.E. Wright is a Midwest native with a passion for delving into the realms of fiction and nonfiction. As a social scientist and writer, she starts each project with a simple question: 'What if…'

She loves diving into dystopian and speculative science fiction, where she doesn't shy away from the brutal realities of a world shaped by shifting ideologies. With a knack for social commentary and a talent for creating characters you can't help but root for (or against), she's all about crafting stories that make you think, laugh, and maybe even cringe a little.

On a personal note, Wright prefers soda to pop, measures the distance between places in time rather than driving distance, and has been known to cheer the Bears, even though she currently lives in Packer country.

Drawing inspiration from her Midwest roots, Wright infuses the novel with authentic details and vivid descriptions that transport readers to a not-so-distant future. Through her compelling storytelling, she delves into themes of identity, parenthood, and the resilience of the human spirit in the face of adversity. Wright's unique voice shines through her lyrical prose, capturing the essence of both heartache and hope as Sam grapples with the profound implications of the Fatherhood Mandate.

Wright exhibits a masterful blend of speculative fiction and coming-of-age storytelling. With The Fatherhood Mandate, she establishes herself as a powerful voice in the literary world, leaving readers eagerly anticipating her next thought-provoking work. By shedding light on important social issues and challenging societal norms, Wright's prose offers a poignant reflection on the complexities of human relationships and the potential consequences of a world shaped by shifting ideologies.
