About this eBook

A curious reporter. A charming gambler. Will they accept the love dealt them?

As the newcomer in town, Jessamine McMahon is determined to forge her own path as a reputable reporter. In order to survive in the small town of Bear Grass Springs, she soon learns that she has to peddle local news and gossip as well as hard news.  At turns fascinated and repelled by Ewan MacKinnon, Jessamine writes frequent articles about him, calling him the town’s “most disreputable gentleman.”

Ewan MacKinnon lives a charmed life. A successful builder, he spends his evenings at the saloons or at other fine establishments in town. He has no interest in a wife. Nor in love. Not again. However, Jessamine intrigues him with her fiery spirit and determination to prove herself capable in a world often merciless to independent women.

As she learns to read his poker face and he reads between the lines in her articles, they realize theirs is no usual courtship. Will they trust in their love or squander the opportunity given to them?

I received an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review. Well the author certainly knows how to get your attention but what confused me is she has you hating the love interest. Jessamine is a reporter who comes to town and alienates everyone with the stories she writes. It was interesting to see how the author was going to get Ewan and Jessamine together. An interesting love story that makes you think about life and how unpleasant it can be. This is not your typical rosy love story. I did enjoy reading it and really liked the way it ended. Would recommend to all who love a different style for a love story.

A really good book which follows the lives of its characters well. I enjoyed the story plot. A historical book with a little mystery and some romance. An interesting western town which details the people lives, the work they do there and their interactions with each other. I found the book hard to put down as I wanted to see what was going to happen next. This is a standalone book. I look forward to Book 4 of this series which is to come out in May of 2018. I received this book as a member of the author's ARC team for a review.

Sometimes, even negative attention is good attention, and the more Jessamine McMahon pokes at Ewan MacKinnon in her newspaper articles, the more attention he gives her. Underneath his devil-may-care attitude, Ewan is a romantic and caring man. Despite Jessamine's barbs against him, when she needs his protection, he gives it to her, keeping her safe when no-one else will. As a newspaper lady in early Montana, Jessamine has a difficult path to forge for herself, especially as she has her own secrets. Little by little, those who have been able to breach her defenses, show her that she can catch more flies with honey than with vinegar, and she begins to look below the surface of things. There is wit, humour and underlying heartache in this romance, especially for those who have been used and abused by some of the less than charitable characters in the book. The story clipped along at a lively pace and I was kept enthralled throughout, finding it difficult to put the book down. The characters were realistic and I especially loved big, bad Ewan MacKinnon. I received a copy of this book as a gift and this is my honest and voluntary review.
