Museums can work to reproduce ideologies and confirm the existing order of things, or as instruments of social reform. Michelle Henning is Senior Lecturer in Cultural Studies at the University of the West of England, Bristol. Her other publications include essays on photography and digital media, on theories of sensation in modernity and on new media in museums. She has also worked as an installation artist.
