He started with the fostering of dialogue, about ameliorating the impacts of layoffs in times of recession, among the workforce in the auto industry and community, in Flint, Michigan. New Work, New Culture recounts the development of his ideas, and describes one course which humanity might follow, that all might live better lives.

Professor Frithjof Bergmann is Professor Emeritus of Philosophy at the University of Michigan, where he spent most of his academic career. Bergmann is a Nietzsche scholar, teacher and political activist, and he is the director of the Center for New Work. He lives in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
