Acerca de este libro electrónico

The Purpose of this two volume series is to make easily available selections from lectures transcribed and published in four volumes as Teachings of the Book of Mormon by Hugh W. Nibley, Professor at Brigham Young University.

The Editor text scanned all four volumes of the series to about half the original by eliminating those portions the Editor felt not necessary to the verses under discussion. No other changes were made to the original Nibley four volumes.

Readers of the Book of Mormon will benefit from Hugh Nibley's extensive historical and linguistic background from a lifetime of study of ancient documents.

The Editor has made an effort to provide full scripture references at the beginning of each paragraph which were not available in the original editions by Hugh Nibley. These references will be helpful to students and teachers of the Book of Mormon.

The numbers at the beginning of each paragraph refer to the page number of the First Edition of each of the four volumes and will alert the reader to where omissions may be found in the original four volumes.

The Editor has expanded most chapter topic summaries as shown in brackets.

Proceeds from this book will be donated to Project Sprouts (www.project-sprouts.com)  which is operated by Mondoro Company Ltd a company designs and manufactures furniture and home accessories in Asia.

Acerca del autor

The Editor Sharman B Hummel has not special academic creditials but has long been a fan of Huge Nibley.  Brought up as a Quaker from a family that has deep roots in China (his father was a Christian Missionary in China and his brother US Ambassador), Sharman was baptized a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1961.

Sharman Hummel started to read Hugh Nibley’s books in 1968.  Those who know of Hugh NIbley’s writings know of his powerful testimony of the Book of Mormon.   Sharman Hummel had edited Hugh Nibley’s works in hope to share them with you, so that you may also gain from the insight and wisdom of Hugh Nibley.

Sharman married his wife Anne-Marie, a Swedish citizen, and they have six children, all daughters. Sharman took graduate work in Printing Management and they moved to California. While Anne-Marie and the three children were visiting her parents in 1961, Sharman was laid off from a printing job and expected the Union to have a new position in six weeks. He took a Greyhound bus to Washington D.C. to visit his parents and on the return trip the bus picked up a young 17 year old member of the LDS Church at 1:30 AM, who took a seat next to him. In the morning just before Reno she told him about her church. As a result of this, Sharman attended a church in El Cerrito, near their home in Richmond, CA,. They both were quickly baptized. All of the children are active Temple LDS goers, and four of his daughter's are return missionaries. .
Sharman moved to Salt Lake City and worked for the Deseret News Press, managed at the time by Thomas S. Monson. Always a mover and disturber of the status quo, Sharman came to notice of "Tom," who occasionally drove him home when they both worked late. When Thomas Monson became an Apostle he added Sharman’s conversion story to the collection that has since been repeated in his books, some pamphlets and other venues including a video leadership training session several years ago. Through publicity both of them have hoped to find the girl on the bus. She was 17 ½ in March 1961.
Sharman read Hugh Nibley’s books immediately after his conversion to the church in 1968. Those who know his writings know of his powerful testimony of the Book of Mormon. His favorite is the work he has edited—having read them repeatedly ever since they were first published.
