Since 1989, Brian Caswell has written twenty-four books including the best-selling A Cage of Butterflies. His work has received many awards and shortlistings, including the Children’s Peace Literature Award, the Vision Australia, Young Adult Audio Book of the Year Award, the Aurealis Award for science-fiction and fantasy, the Australian Multicultural Children’s Literature Award, the Human Rights Awards, the NSW Premier’s Awards (three times), and he has been included in the prestigious International Youth Library’s ‘White Ravens’ list four times. All his published novels have been listed as Notable Books, by the Children’s Book Council of Australia. He lives on the NSW Central Coast with his wife Marlene. David Chiem arrived in Australia as a refugee in 1978. At the age of 14 he became the first Asian actor to gain a leading role on mainstream Australian television in the internationally acclaimed mini-series Butterfly Island. He has since played leading roles in film, television, theatre and radio. David studied acting at the Theatre Nepean (UWS), a BA (Communications) (UTS) and a masters of film producing at the prestigious AFTRS. It was at AFTRS that David met Brian Caswell. The pair have collaborated on various writing projects, most significantly, on the novels Only the Heart and The Full Story. Together they have a unique ability to communicate the experience of Vietnamese Australians and address lingering cultural prejudices and mythologies. David is fascinated by the mind and its creative potential. He is widely regarded as an accelerated learning and memory expert and is the Founder and Principal of Accelerated Learning Worldwide (ALW).
