One of the best books of its time. Becker really puts down one of the first interpretation of deviance that's not based in the "bad people do bad things" category. There are great social elements to deviance (and all types of deviance, not just crime too), and he explains it in a very common and easy to understand language (rare for sociologists at the time).

Howard S. Becker has made major contributions to the sociology of deviance, the sociology of art, and the sociology of music. His books include Tricks of the Trade and What About Mozart? What About Murder? He lives and works in San Francisco and Paris.
