Uneven. Needs better editing - people don't go wondering around the office, for example. Characters don't seem consistent. One minute Sean is the basest, most 2 dimensional villain and the next chapter he seems overwhelmed with empathy. Sometimes it seemed like all the characters shared the same voice - as if they lacked their own distinct personalities and were all aspects of the same character. Their vocabularies are all pretty much the same, too. Alison seemed most clearly formed and consistent. I didn't like how perspective changed chapter by chapter. It made it seem to me as if the author was still experimenting to see which character was his favorite. Despite the nits I've picked it seems like the start of a fun world to read about. I'd like to read how the Vis came out and what Gabriel will do next.

Apart from using "Vis" about a thousand times to avoid calling it mana, and the book reading like a Harlequin book, it's not all bad.

It was slow going in the beginning. But when it picked up it was fast, exciting, and easy to read. I really loved this author with his vivid imagination and the ease he uses to explore readers mind.
