Ponniyin Selvan: First Flood is the first volume of the epic historical novel by Kalki Krishnamurthy, which narrates the story of the Chola prince Arulmozhivarman, who later became the great king Rajaraja Chola I. The novel is set in the 10th century CE, when the Chola empire was facing threats from the Pallavas, the Pandyas, and the Sinhalese.
