कवयित्री म्हणून सर्वपरिचित असलेल्या शान्ताबार्इंनी विपुल गीतलेखनही केले आहे. चित्रपट, नाटके याचप्रमाणे ध्वनिमुद्रिका, ध्वनिफिती अशा माध्यमांतून त्यांची अनेक गीते लोकांपर्यंत पोहोचली आणि ती लोकप्रियही झाली. शान्ताबाई या आजच्या एक आघाडीच्या गीतकार आहेत. गीतांसाठी विविध रचनाबंध त्यांनी हाताळले आहेत, त्याचप्रमाणे आशयाचीही त्यात विस्मयकारक विविधता आहे. लावण्या आणि गौळणी या पूर्वापार चालत आलेल्या गीतप्रकारांत शान्ताबार्इंनी अनेक गीते लिहिली, इतकेच नव्हे तर त्या प्रकारांना त्यांनी स्वत:चे असे एक परिमाणही दिले. ‘रेशीमरेघा’ या संकलनात शान्ताबार्इंनी लिहिलेल्या अनेक लावण्या, गौळणी आहेत, तसेच त्यांत काही वेधक द्वंद्वगीतेही आहेत. व्यावसायिकतेला झालेला निर्मितीक्षमतेचा स्पर्श आणि कारागिरीला लाभलेली काव्यगुणांची जोड म्हणजेच या प्रसन्न ‘रेशीमरेघा’.
Shantabai is well known as a poetess. But we all are aware that she is equally famous as a lyricist composing for movies and dramas. She is a leading lyricist today. While coming up with lyrics she has tried different formats of it. She has written much in the format of `lavani` and `goulan` and given a certain depth to these formats. This book is compiled of many such forms, it includes many of her famous duets. Though she wrote it on a commercial basis, she did not lose her passion for writing. The compositions here have a Midas touch.
