About this ebook

‘Oh my goodness... There were so many twists and turns... I wish I could award it more than five stars.’ Goodreads reviewer ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Everyone’s welcome. But not everyone leaves...

Nick and Amber Miller are splitting up and selling their Devon home. But despite the desirable location, the house isn’t moving. Not a single viewing so far.

When their estate agent suggests an open house event, Amber agrees, even as she worries about their gossiping neighbours attending and snooping around their home.

But Amber has more to worry about than nosy neighbours. Because thirteen people enter her house that afternoon, and only twelve leave.

Someone doesn't want the house to sell, and is willing to do anything to stop it...

From bestselling author Sam Carrington, who also writes as Alice Hunter, comes a gripping, twisty page-turner about secrets, lies and relationships. Perfect for fans of Date Night, Gone Girl and The Woman in the Window.

This book has many troops that I dislike which are as follows: 1. Unlikable main characters and narrators. 2. Slow burn, it actually got too slow and repetitive. 3. Normalizing cheating on a spouse. 4. Stupid main character with stupid conversations. As for the twists, they were there just for shock value. And as I didn't like any of the characters, I despised them even more while reading the last chapter that contained the last two twists. A huge spoiler ahead: The fact that Amber the main character would be part of murdering Patrick and burying dead bodies under her own garden is beyond me. Also, even if no one knows, how can she keep her intimate relationship with her brother in law? The immortality of this family is disgusting.

After the breakdown of her marriage, Amber is set to move on with her 2 sons and her new boyfriend. The only thing standing in her way, is the family home, that she hasn’t been able to sell. When her realtor suggests an open house, she reluctantly agrees but, things take a turn on the day when 13 people enter the home but, only 12 come out… The Open House is a chilling read that does not lack in the creepy vibes or the goosebumps on your arms departments. It immediately pulls you into its dark and twisted world, where I found I could not untangle myself from it until the final page. I love Sam Carrington’s writing and she does a great job at ramping up the tension and suspense throughout the book. There are plenty of twists and edge of your seat moments, that all lead me to furiously flicking the pages on my Kindle to see how it was all going to come together and unfold. I throughly enjoyed The Open House. It’s plot is strong and it’s motive sinister. The ending is different and a bit out of left field but, it did not deter from my enjoyment of the story. It was a pleasure to read and review The Open House, which I recommend.

Overall it's a good read, however it got a bit slow in the middle and the ending was rather weird hence 4 stars
