Do you have one of those friends whom you can sit down and have intriguing conversations with for hours? I do, and we once had a discussion about adultery and what-if scenarios, and that's where the idea behind this book was born.
Police Chief Mark Tame was created because I wanted a main character that was like an M & M: hard on the outside, seemingly unbreakable, but inside sweet, tender, and irresistible. His wife Shelley is also strong and level-headed, but this book looks at the flawed side of those types of characters...and what happens to us when things go wrong...do we make mistakes? Do we keep a stiff upper lip?
The Wife of a Lesser Man is about karma. Do we deserve what we get by being impulsive? It's also about forgiveness...when we err do our loved ones still protect us? No matter what we've done to hurt them?
This book took about eighteen months in total to write. It was re-written several times on the advice of an editor. During the editing process valuable lesson were learned: building suspense and creating a page-turner without all the fluff were a few skills I walked away with. I loved the characters so much I wrote two more and created a series (Don't Mess with Daddy's Girl, and The Wheels of Change)....am I finished? Probably not...
I should also mention that the books in this LA Cops series can be read in any order.
