About the author

In a formal ceremony recently at the NASA Headquarters, NASA Administrator Sean O"Keefe awarded NASA's Distinguished Public Service Medal to Dr. Radhakrishna Chetty Pandipati. This is the highest honor that NASA awards to anyone who was not a Government employee when the service was performed. The award is granted only to individuals whose distinguished accomplishments contributed substantially to the NASA mission. The contribution must be so extraordinary that other forms of recognition would be inadequate. Radhakrishna Chetty Pandipati, an expert in Satellite Technology and Electronic Power Systems, currently supports NASA in the technical oversight of the electrical & power systems for the TDRS-K/L Spacecraft. Earlier, he supported NASA in the technical oversight of the electrical power systems for the NOAA-KLMNN’’ Spacecraft and he managed the electrical power systems for the TOPEX Spacecraft at Orbital Sciences Corporation. Before joining Fairchild, Dr. Chetty worked at the French Space Center, the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO), and at Sundstrand Corporation where he was master design engineer working on power conversion and processing for naval and aerospace applications. He was also a faculty member at the California Institute of Technology (CalTech) as a postdoctoral research fellow. Dr. Chetty received ISRO's Distinguished Achievement Award in 1975, the Most Valuable of the Issue Award from Electronic Design in 1974, the Best Design of the Issue Awards from EDN in 1976 & 1978, Fairchild’s President Award in 1987, the NASA Certificate of Appreciation in recognition for conducting the TOPEX/Poseidon Program with the highest standards of excellence in 1995, 1996 AIA Scientist of the Year Award, NASA GSFC Exceptional Achievement Award in1997, NASA GSFC POES Program Manager’s Commendation in 1999 & 2000, NASA Distinguished Public Service Medal in 2002, TANA Excellence in the fields of Electrical and Space Engineering in 2003, NASA GSFC Thomas J.
