Unwanted in a New World by Sherry Derr-Wille. The story starts in the Spring of 2100. A hover craft crashes with a couple on it. The critical injured woman was approximately seven months pregnant. Before she died, a baby was delivered via Caesarean section. Unable to find the relatives of the deceased couple, the male child, Christopher Laughlin, is brought up in a foster home with other unwanted children. In 2118 the child is eighteen years old and must find his way in a prejudiced world where mixed marriages and off springs are shunned. The eighteen-year-old protagonist, Christopher (Chris), of European and Cheyenne ancestry faces steadfast norms and mores, making it difficult for him to fit into different groups of American society. He meets an extraterrestrial from another galaxy, Melian. She lives in a society under an icecap in Antarctica. An immediate attraction draws them together. Excellent plot. Kept my interest from the first page to the ending. The characters were memorable. Good transition from chapter to chapter. Look forward to reading the next book in series.
